Reaching Hotel
Getting to The Chudleigh is easy, whether by road or rail. If you’re driving, you’ll probably use the A133 – that’s the road from Colchester (and the larger A12 network) into Clacton. Near the seafront, it becomes almost too easy to navigate! There’s a small forecourt in front of the hotel where cars can be parked but spaces are limited; this is something at which its owners have become adept over years: managing perfectly well with apparent insufficiency. They provide parking permits for immediately outside on-street bays so guests almost always get lucky with a spot right near their entrance for however long they stay.
By train, Clacton-on-Sea is the terminus station from London Liverpool Street. The walking distance to the hotel through town is about ten or twelve minutes and relatively flat; in case of heavy luggage, there happens to be a taxi rank directly outside the station with minimal fare. This makes The Chudleigh an excellent option for a car-free weekend break out of London—approximately ninety minutes by train because connectivity works perfectly.
After check-in, most places can be accessed on foot. The promenade continues for several miles in both directions: new cafes and quieter sandy beaches toward Holland-on-Sea to the east; toward Jaywick and the Martello Towers to the west. Should you wish to travel farther afield–perhaps to the historic town of Colchester or Walton-on-the-Naze headland bus stops are just at the end of Agate Road on the seafront, with regular service along what marketing types have now dubbed the "Sunshine Coast."
